Day off on Vancouver Island

March 1, 2007

Oh, the forgetting.

After two weeks of treeplanting I'm relearning the difference between "a job" and "work." I'm feeling slapped vigourously about the face by the reality of just how much energy is required to dig 1500 holes while donkeying heavy weight around through slashy terrain. Especially after eight months of minimal fitness-type activity and big puffy clouds of garlic and olive oil mashed potatoes. Next time, as I like to say, I will totally remember to work out or something. I think I burned a thousand calories yesterday just fighting off the weather. Blowing snow pellets like obliterated Styrofoam. I couldn't feel my fingers by three. Ditto, the toes. Still, it's not every day when your supervisor lets you stick your hands in his armpits. I also have a pretty good tan.
